Shine On

The holidays are coming just around the corner and IFB was currently sponsoring a constest along with Uncommon to design a collage based on your favorite fall trend. The winner chosen will have their inspiration translated onto a holiday inspired I-phone case. Something I have actually been in the market for recently. When mentally backtracking I always seem to come to one trend during the fall season that I find to be incredibly versatile all year round and not just when the holidays are in full swing. That trend is metallics.

Every girl has at least one sparkly or gold object in their fashion reputoire that they pull out for the special occasions. It’s because something shiny signifies something high class or luxury. Not only that but during the holidays we see a lot of very shiny adornments whether it’s on presents, trees, or even home decor. It brings us joy and a sense purity to see all the dazzling lights and sparkles hitting our starry eyes. Gold has always been a go to staple when accessorizing for those of us who aren’t silver fans. And metallics are never limited to one season. They can translate to any time of the year with ease and can always make a statement whether they be alone or in a well coordinated outfit with hints of metallics within.

The reason I chose the imagery above for my entry dates back all the way to childhood. I always think back to Christmas time when I see the shiny tinsel strands or the golden apples which are a regularly used holiday motif. I recall putting Christmas decorations on the tree and always feeling bad for the little golden apples that never made their way to the branches. I would hold one and stare at it in childlike awe because of how shiny it was in comparison to all the others.

My family had a tradition of blowing tinsel strands onto a banana on our tree and whoever got it on or closest to it was crowned top banana. They then suited up in their banana inspired costume and took part in religious like ceremonies meant to humor us all and bring the family home for Christmas no matter where their roots currently stood.

Metallics have always been my go to trend for the holidays. I suit up in my best velvet and gold cocktail dress, my DIY gold glitter heels, and feel like a star.
